Serenata’s Next Concert

St Marys – Swaffham Prior – Sunday April 14th

Our first concert of 2024 will be at 4pm in St Mary’s, Swaffham Prior.

It is a joy to be performing in our rehearsal home of Swaffham Prior, where the Village Hall has been a welcoming rehearsal venue since the choir’s inception.

St Mary’s is a beautiful church which boasts an unusual round tower and is set in one of only three churchyards in Cambridgeshire to have two churches situated together. St Cyria & St Julitta, next door, offers “champing” and is used as a performance space by the Churches Conservation Trust; we performed here in 2019.

This year, we are delighted to be singing in St Mary’s. Both churches have an excellent acoustic.

We have chosen a rich repertoire for our 14th April concert, illustrating Why We Sing and showcasing the power and emotional intensity of song through the ages. Our programme includes Renaissance music by Thomas Weelkes, exquisite settings of religious texts by Fauré, Gjeilo and Pitoni, folk songs arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and modern gems, such as Whitacre’s Sing Gently, which explores aspects of why we sing. Close your eyes to the lilting lullaby Hushabye Mountain and revisit rousing favourites from the enduring Sound of Music.

Tickets will be available on the door or by phoning 01223 892001. Interval refreshments.

Our family ticket is great value, including two adults and two children for just £32……

We are already planning our summer concerts in Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.

We are very excited to be returning to Balsham, Cambridgeshire, on the 14th July, performing at the Church of The Holy Trinity, where our theme will be “sky light”– from the moon, the sun and the stars.

A date for your diary!
